Roma Restart

Roma Restart project was supported by the Foundation for Children of Slovakia and ERSTE Foundation and implemented on the basis of professional cooperation with artist Helmut Bistika and photographer Mária Smoleňová. It carried the idea of breaking down barriers, stereotypes, prejudice and discrimination. 

 In Roma restart project, Association FOR BETTER LIFE cooperated with three threshold clubs of socially dependent youth in villages of Kecerovce-Olšava micro-region (Rankovce, Kecerovce, and Vtáčkovce). The youth met regularly once a week and worked in two artistic lines. The first one, under the guidance of the artist and other professionals, focused on creation of costumes from unconventional, as well as waste materials (such as paper, metal, plastic, construction waste, etc.). The second one, led by photographer, focused on reflection on the topic of anti-discrimination and its capture through photographs.

The project culminated during the International Roma Day on April 4, 2016 in Košice in Kulturpark, at so called Roma Fashion Show – magnificent fashion show, held under the auspices of the Deputy Mayor of Košice, MD. Renata Lénartová.
